In the Calm of the Night… Jesus Our Lord Shows Up

A Devotional for Women Walking Through the “Crazies”
A Midnight Adventure
(That Turned Into a God-Appointment)
Hello dear Ladies,
Let me tell you of my adventure last night. It’s always in the smack dab middle of the night, right?! There I was, tossing and turning, getting really hot in bed (lol, not that way ladies). I threw off the covers, hubby threw them back. So I finally sighed, got up, and went to turn down the multitude of heaters.
THEN I had to pee — right????
And of course then I was thirsty.
So I padded down the hall into the living area/great kitchen with cold tile flooring — sigh — grabbed some water and… well… not sleepy anymore.
So I thought, I will go work on my blog a little bit. It’s quiet, no distractions.
Or so I thought.
And Then… Peace Came
You see, earlier that day, the “crazies” came. You know, Ladies — the kind that sticks in your head and you can’t get it out for nothing. The kind that literally drives you crazy and sends you plotting Plan A and B and C and every other backup plan.

It snowballs.
It grips you.
It makes you feel like you’re losing your mind as it builds and builds.
Maybe it was something with your hubby, your best friend, your mother, or anyone close. Something small — tiny even — but somehow your brain (and then your heart) latches onto that little piece of information that isn’t anything… but feels like a big SOMETHING.
And away you go.
What IS all this??
Ladies, friends, hear me:
It’s the dark one — the enemy of our souls.
It’s Satan and his minions doing their damnedest to disrupt us, shake our souls, and destroy relationships.

Because if he can unravel our peace, he thinks he wins.
But in the stillness of late last night — or very early this morning — my Lord reminded me that the “crazy” wasn’t from Him. That He has already defeated Satan. And that I could rest in HIM with ANYTHING.
HE would take care of it… and of me.
And Peace Came…
Why the Enemy Targets Women
Ladies, when the “crazies” hit, what do you do?
Do you run to your prayer closet (or maybe the real one)?
Do you step outside to the garden or the patio?
Do you seek out a quiet place?
I’ll be honest — it wasn’t my first or second or even third idea.
God had to wake me up to get me focused and alone with HIM.
Why does the enemy seem to attack women so mercilessly?
Because women have been critically important to God from the very beginning — Eve, Mary, and all the Ladies of the Bible. Women are nurturers, truth-bearers, heart-carriers, and life-bringers.
Of course the enemy would try to distort, discourage, and destroy what God Himself created for good.
The Solution: Run. Rebuke. Refocus.
When the “crazies” come knocking on your mind and heart, here is your three-step spiritual strategy.
1. RUN — Get Alone with the Lord
Run as soon as you realize what is going on.
Run to the bathroom, the closet, your car, the patio — anywhere quiet.

Take your Bible with you.
Go and be alone with the Lord.
2. REBUKE — Stand Firm in Jesus’ Name
Rebuke Satan in Jesus’ name — and MEAN IT.
Here are scriptures Jesus Himself used:
-
“Get behind me, Satan!” (Matthew 16:23)
-
“Be gone, Satan!” (Matthew 4:10)
-
“The Lord rebuke you, O Satan!” (Zechariah 3:2)
You are not powerless.
You are not alone.
You are covered by Christ’s authority.
3. The Armor of God — Your Spiritual Protection

Ephesians 6:10–17 tells us exactly how to stand strong.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
This is not symbolic language — this is spiritual survival gear.
3. REFOCUS — Shift Your Thoughts Back to Jesus
To refocus and regroup your walk with Jesus means intentionally shifting your attention from the “crazies” back to Him.
Through prayer.
Through scripture.
Through remembering His faithfulness (Hebrews 12:2).
Key Actions for Refocusing & Regrouping

-
Fix Your Eyes on Jesus
Like a runner, focus solely on Him — not the noise around you. -
Review & Reflect
Check your heart. Have you drifted? Have you let something small become big? -
Seek God’s Word & Prayer
Scripture (Colossians 3:1) and prayer clear the mind and steady the heart. -
Repent & Receive
Friend, sometimes we drift. Sometimes we leave the door cracked open for the enemy.
In my case, all this started because I failed to fully trust in a relationship. -
Take Action & Move Forward
Love Him, follow Him, and if needed — reset and restart.
Scriptures to Hold Tight
-
Hebrews 12:2: Fix your eyes on Jesus.
-
Colossians 3:2: Set your mind on things above.
-
Jeremiah 29:11: God’s plans for you are good.
These aren’t just verses — they’re anchors.
Closing Thoughts: Walk With Him, Lean on Him, Rest in Him

By following these steps, you can regroup your spirit, keep the “crazies” at bay, and walk closer with our Lord Jesus. Is this a one and done? No my friends, this is a repeat process.
May God our Father and our precious Lord Jesus Christ walk with us always (as He has promised to do) and guide our path.
With much love and prayers for you, my friend,
