Welcome to the Gardening page! Let’s be real y’all, gardening is an adventure. Sometimes fun, sometimes not, but always worth it in the end. I have also found that gardening is different for me at different times of my life. I have had small gardens, apartment gardens, and really lovely huge gardens. And I have loved them all and they have taught me many lessons of life and given me great joy.
New Beginnings
This 4X4 raised bed on the side of our yard was my starter garden when we first moved to Texas. It was the easiest to claim and improve and learn on. Since then I have expanded into the back yard, patio and pretty much everywhere.
Having moved to Texas 3 years ago from Southern California, gardening was a real change and a challenge for me. It has taken me a couple of seasons (to say the least) to get acclimated and I am still learning all about North Texas and her weather.
Year 2 and Beyond
My hopes for this page is that you will find inspiration and even amusement from my trials and successes, especially if you are a transplant to Texas like me.
Now on to some resources for you:
Resources – Find Your Zone
I highly suggest that you find your planting zone first and foremost. Follow this link for the best one I know for North Texas, it uses your zip code so it is really spot on accurate. And it’s the most current too.
e National Gardening Association – USDA Hardiness Zone Finder
You can also check out The Farmers Almanac Zone Finder
Join A Group
Another tip I will pass along is to join at least one or more Facebook groups specifically for gardening in North Texas. Texas has so many zones and micro-climates that it is best to seek a group specific for your zone. That way all the tried and true advise, and tips are good for you and your garden.
I belong to 3 groups that are just superb! Feel free to drop by and let them know I sent ya on over!
