Menopause = Meant to Pause
What is Menopause? What does it mean to you? I have come to understand that Menopause is a time in a Womans life, more towards the end of her journey, for her to “pause”. Just like when we were young and our bodies were starting up, revving up for impending “womanhood”, we are now in the process of winding down. The reproductive part of our bodies is slowing to a standstill. And although we have gone through motherhood and possibly even grandmotherhood, it is now time to mother again. But now we mother ourselves. It is time for us. And it is a journey, another journey about ourselves. Possibly the grandest journey!
My Menopause journey started early, as did my mother’s. I’m not sure why hers started early, but mine was probably a combination of hereditary and surgery. At 45 years of age, I decided it was time to have my “tubes tied”. It was a decision I had wrestled with for awhile for various personal reasons, but the decision was made and carried through. By the time I was 46, I was in full on Menopause…symptoms and all. I had read and heard all of the horror stories, and I am sure that there are women out there that DO suffer I was extremely lucky and believe me I am thankful for this. However, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t go through, and still go through symptoms…almost 15 years later.
