Week Two – God’s Love for Us

Welcome, my friend.
Find a quiet place, take a deep breath, and invite God into this moment. As we open His Word together this week, may it bring peace to your heart, clarity to your mind, and gentle encouragement for the days ahead.
God’s love forms the foundation of His relationship with us, and He demonstrated this most powerfully through the sacrifice of His Son.

The Foundation
Perhaps no truth in the Bible is more profound and foundational than the reality of God’s love for us. And yet, this can be a challenging concept to fully grasp. John 3:16 shows us that love isn’t just something God does — it is the very essence of who He is. His love is not a response to our worthiness (because we are not worthy on our own), but a reflection of His divine character.
John boldly declares that God is love. This makes it clear that love is not merely an attribute of God — it is His very nature. Every action God takes, every boundary He sets, and every promise He makes flows from His love. When we struggle to understand God’s ways, it is vital that we view them through the lens of love. He is love, and He cannot act contrary to who He is.
Let’s explore this love together. It isn’t sentimental, the way human love often is. It isn’t fleeting, as love in our world can be. Romans 5:8 reveals the depth of God’s love for us:
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.”
This is love that acts. Love that sacrifices. Love that pursues us even when we reject Him. It is love that sees us at our worst and chooses us anyway.
In the Psalms, we are reminded that God’s love is enduring — not subject to the ebb and flow of emotion as ours often is.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” (Psalm 136:1)
I encourage us to remember (and yes, I am speaking to myself as well) that God’s love remains steadfast, even when everything in our lives feels like it is falling apart.
Our glorious God speaks some of the most beloved words to us in Jeremiah 31:3:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
He never stops drawing us near — even when we are undeserving. I have experienced this in my own life in very profound ways. Have you? His love does, and always will, remain steadfast. Let us remind ourselves of this daily.
Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:17–19 reminds us that truly understanding and comprehending God’s love is a lifelong journey — one that requires His guidance. We cannot, and thankfully do not, walk this journey alone. Like the roots of a tree growing deeper and stronger with time, our understanding of God’s love deepens and begins to shape every aspect of our lives.
This week, as we ponder this amazing love and what it means to be loved by God, let us remember:
“We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)
God’s love should transform how we view ourselves, how we treat others, and how we approach life’s many challenges.
Reflection Time
-
Think of one or two people who are difficult to love. What simple act of kindness could you show them this week?
-
When did you first feel deeply loved by God?
-
What is one way you could demonstrate God’s unconditional love to someone in your family — even if you don’t feel they “deserve” it?

Your Weekly Prayer Blessing
“May you rest deeply in God’s unconditional love this week, allowing His perfect love to cast out every fear and doubt, and overflow to those around you.”
Go into this week knowing you are seen, loved, and held by God. I’m grateful you’re here, and I’m thankful to walk this study with you.
