Welcome to the Gardening page! Let’s be real y’all, gardening is an adventure. Sometimes fun, sometimes not, but always worth it in the end. I have also found that gardening is different for me at different times of my life. I have had small gardens, apartment gardens, and really lovely huge gardens. And I have loved them all and they have taught me many lessons of life and given be great joy.
My current garden is in pockets, one small 4X4 on the side of our driveway and then containers in our patio area.
Having moved to Texas 3 years ago from Southern California, gardening was a real change and challenge for me. It has taken me a couple of seasons (to say the least) to get acclimated and I am still learning all about North Texas and her weather. Plans were for large raised beds surrounding our 1/3 acre back yard this year…but time and the Texas weather got away from me, again.
So I moved on to my container patio project instead. AND, I will give a go at veggies for our fall in the sided 4X4 garden this year.
My hopes for this page is that you will find inspiration and even amusement from my trials and successes, especially if you are a transplant to Texas like me.
I highly suggest that you fine your planting zone first and foremost. Follow this link for the best one I know for North Texas, it uses your zip code so it is really spot on accurate. And its the most current too.
Another tip I will pass along is to join at least one or more Facebook groups specifically for gardening in North Texas. Texas has so many zones and micro-climates that it is best to seek a group specific for your zone. That way all the tried and true advise and tips are good for you and your garden.
I belong to 3 groups that are just superb! Feel free to drop by and let them know I sent ya on over!
I hope this information gets your gardening off to a great start. Please stop on by periodically to see how my gardens are doing. I would love your comments and any great advise you have to share.
